Greeny:

adaptative desk that teaches the values of recycling

Furniture design
University project

Greeny is a desk for children’s bedrooms with the extra functionality to promote recycling among the little ones. For this purpose, instead of a chest of drawers, it presents a series of different colours carts that can be used as waste bins.

Users have wooden figures in the shape of waste that they can create in their homes. During learning, they should place these small pieces on the front of the trolley with the corresponding colour. This, in addition to serving as an interactive and educational exercise, works as a visual reminder when they have to throw something away.

Since the project promotes sustainability and responsible design, it did not seem appropriate to create a piece of furniture that would become obsolete as the user grows. Therefore, more neutral colors were used and a pegboard back with which the kids can adapt the desk to their tastes and needs as they grow.

Process and tools

Investigation

The Hannun brand was studied as a reference company for the project, as well as some of its competitors.

Ideation

Thinking about how to help children with recycling, it was decided to integrate the bins into a desk, where the different morphologies of the product began to be explored.

Modeling and rendering

The final design was then modeled in Rhinoceros, rendered in Keyshot and put into context with Photoshop.
